Engine Development

BEI provides a full range of high performance, high horsepower engine development expertise. Several engine development projects are underway for the U.S. Army, with the latest contract coming from the Air Force. Projects range from a 500 Hp opposed piston diesel engine to a small Nutating Disk engine designed for unmanned aircraft. BEI specializes in turning engine concepts into running prototypes utilizing a variety of engine development tools.

DESIGN:

BEI offers complete engine design, development, prototyping and testing for new engine concepts. Experience in diesel, rotary engine, and spark-ignited engine development for a variety of applications provides a broad knowledge base. From concept through testing, BEI provides detailed concepting, solid modeling, Finite Element Analysis and CFD Analysis, component design, prototype engine fabrication and testing. Utilizing tools such as the latest in Pro-Engineer software, WinKiva, and custom programs, BEI provides state-of-the-art engine design and analysis.

As an engine development resource for the US Army and Air Force, projects range from the design and development of an opposed-piston, two-cycle diesel engine with turbomachinery, to a small "Nutating Disk" engine targeted for use in unmanned aircraft. Both are packed with power and revolutionary in design. Integrating advanced turbomachinery, custom components, advanced fuel injection systems, and many other advanced technologies, the engines offer significan power to weight ratio advantages. In addition to engine concepting and design, BEI spearheads development of the demonstrator/prototype engines.

PROTOTYPE FABRICATION:

Advanced machining and fabrication capabilities enhance BEI's ability to manufacture many one-of-a-kind components necessary for the engine prototypes. BEI has a complete engine machine shop with CNC capabilities, as well a fabrication shop allowing the company to manufacture many of the one-of-a-kind components in-house.

TESTING:

BEI tests the demonstrator or prototype engines, measuring power levels, torque, and thousands of additional data points with a National Instruments data acquisition system. BEI also fabricates the test rigs, and makes necessary modifications to the dynamometers and the data collection software.
